Per PowerBoatGuide's review of the model: "One of the earliest Riviera models introduced into the U.S., the 42 Convertible was marketed as a Bertram look-alike, built like a Blackfin and finished like a Hatteras. In fact the 42 does look a little like a Bertram, and it's also true that her construction is very sturdy indeed. Like all Rivieras, she was heavily built on a solid fiberglass semi-V hull with a shallow keel and a collision bulkhead forward... Because she comes standard with a lower helm, the front windows are not glassed over (as they are on most American boats)."

Hull Specifications per manufacturer literature:
+One piece moulded solid fiberglass
+Collision bulkhead. Two water tight bulkheads, engine bearers and all stiffening fiberglassed to hull
+All laminates to USL code or higher
Deck Specifications per manufacturer literature:
+One piece moulded fiberglass incorporating fwd deck, galley, saloon, and cockpit with nonskid pattern on all traffic areas

Fuel tank is FRP, freshwater tanks (2) are stainless steel, holding tank is poly. Holding tank size is estimated.

Waterline Boats / Boatshed does not independently verify capacities and measures, which are reported from seller-provided information and/or literature.

The vessel can be boarded by stepping onto the swim step and by passing through an opening transom door. The cockpit is large with a substantial amount of storage, cockpit shower, cockpit sink, and an insulated ice box. The engine room is accessed by swinging open the hinged cockpit sink.

A cockpit ladder leads to the flybridge which is surrounded by a newer (2021) canvas enclosure sewn by King Canvas. The flybridge features seating for six with two pedestal seats at the helm station and a bench seat just forward of the pedestal seats. The upper helm station is equipped with engine controls and instruments, a Garmin MFD, VHF, and autopilot control.

The salon is entered through a hinged glass door on the forward starboard side of the cockpit. The salon is laid out with a U-shaped settee with a teak table to port (upholstery updated 2021). A wall mount flat screen TV is located opposite the settee. The salon is a bright and open space and has opening aft and side windows for fresh air.

The lower helm station is located forward and to the starboard side of the salon and is equipped with engine controls and instruments, trolling valve controls, VHF radio, Garmin MFD for plotter/sonar/RADAR data, thruster control, and Fusion stereo head. The helm station windows are equipped with blowers and wipers. A Sure Marine bus style heater provides heat to the space while underway and a built-in electric heater heats the space when on shore power or genset power.

The galley, like the salon, is light and bright and is located a couple steps down from the lower helm station. The galley is appointed with a built-in laminate single basin sink, Samsung microwave, Princess three burner cooktop / oven, and newer Novakool fridge / freezer (2021) and ample counter space and storage in the form of cabinets, drawers, and cubbies.

The master stateroom is located forward at the end of a passageway leading from the galley. The master stateroom features an island berth surrounded by shelving and cabinetry to either side with drawers below. Portlights and an overhead hatch (new 2023) provide natural light and ventilation. A full height hanging locker with shelves forward lies to the port side of the stateroom. An ensuite head lies to the starboard side of the stateroom and contains an electric toilet, washbasin and vanity, & shower stall. An overhead hatch provides light and ventilation.

The guest stateroom lies just aft of the master stateroom on the starboard side of the vessel. It is laid out with a double berth with storage below. This cabin also contains a huge closet that could be considered to some to be a walk-in closet. In addition, the master stateroom and guest berth mattresses have been recently replaced.

The dayhead / guest head lies directly across the passageway from the guest stateroom. It is laid out with an electric toilet, shower, and washbasin + vanity.

Commentaires du Broker

The Riviera 42 Convertible is an attractive and well-rounded motor yacht with classic sport fisher lines and performance. This design offers a perfect balance between a comfortable interior layout with elegant accommodations (two staterooms & two heads) and a large cockpit and flybridge for outdoor activities and leisure.

Riviera has a reputation for premium build quality. The decks on this vessel feel solid and the appearance of the hull and deck are a testament to the materials and process used in the construction of this vessel.

Twin CAT 3208 375 hp diesel engines with low hours (<600) provide propulsion and a comfortable cruising speed of 15 knots. Top speed estimated to be ~23 knots.

Vessel handling in close quarters is simplified with the twin engines (equipped with trolling valves) and a bow thruster.

Extensive updates have been made since 2021. The updates include new:
+ interior appliances (fridge, microwave)
+ nav electronics (Garmin MFDs, Radio Autopilot)
+ Fusion stereo
+ mattresses in master and guest stateroom
+ interior upholstery
+ toilets (Jabsco electric) & hoses
+ bow thruster
+ shafts, struts, cutlass bearings, & shaft seals
+ inverter/charger (Victron Multiplus 12/3000)
+ inverter battery bank (490 amp hour)
+ water heater (Raritan)
+ salon engine heat heater unit (Sure Marine)
+ Seawise davit
+ AB Inflatables center console RIB w/ 20hp Tohatsu
+ Flybridge enclosure

As a broker and as a fellow boater, this is a boat that calls to me for many reasons, but principally these include:
1. With two heads and two staterooms the vessel is well configured for cruising with friends or family.
2. Low hours and easy to maneuver.
3. Classic lines (looks matter) and a good balance between interior and exterior accommodations.
5. Every indication of being well-built, upgraded, and maintained.
6. Cruising speed in the teens and capable of getting there today as opposed to getting there in days.
7. Recently surveyed and with a replacement value of nearly 7 times the list price (contact listing broker for the survey).
