This Nova Marine 36 Sundeck is powered by twin Volvo TMD41A turbocharged, 6-cylinder diesel engines, delivering a reliable blend of performance and fuel economy. Both engines start quickly—even from cold—and run as expected, with smooth, steady operation. Power is transferred through Huth ZF marine gear transmissions for dependable shifting.

Helm stations—both upper and lower—are equipped with full engine instrumentation, including gauges for RPM, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and voltage for each engine. Additional controls include Bennett trim tabs at both stations and a fuel level gauge. A bronze barometer, ship’s clock, hygrometer, and temperature gauge add both utility and classic nautical character. The bilge is clean with minimal water present, reflecting good upkeep.

Fuel is stored in two welded steel tanks with a total capacity of 150 gallons, which, according to the 2020 survey, appeared to be in sound condition with no noted issues.

Electrical power is supplied via dual 30A/125V Marinco shore power receptacles located port and starboard on the side decks, with a 50’ power cable included. A Guest Model 2433 galvanic isolator protects underwater metals while connected to shore power. The battery bank is housed in covered plastic boxes and includes two West Marine Group 24 12V flooded starting batteries (new in 2022) and four Interstate GC2 flooded 6V wet-cell deep cycle house batteries (2020).

Charging systems include a Xantrex Freedom Marine 10 inverter/charger (1000-watt, 30-amp, 12V) paired with a Perko two-position rotary isolation switch, a ProMariner ProSport HD20 smart charger (12V, 20-amp, two-bank), and a ProMariner ProIsoCharge 130X4—an advanced digital battery isolator supporting two alternators and four banks. All wiring is marine-grade, and the electrical systems appear to be in good condition.

This robust mechanical and electrical setup provides reliable propulsion, strong onboard power management, and the confidence to handle both short trips and extended cruising.

The 1986 Nova Marine 36 Sundeck is built on a solid, hand-laid, fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) modified-V chine hull, providing a balance of efficiency, stability, and seaworthiness. Structural integrity is enhanced with marine plywood bulkheads securely bonded to the hull. The hull form features a raked stem and flared bow for a dry, comfortable ride in varying conditions, while the slightly curved transom is fitted with a full-width swim platform for convenient water access. The fuel tanks are stainless steel and no issues were reported in the most current survey.

Her deck arrangement is designed for both ease of movement and social spaces. The open foredeck is complemented by wide, secure side decks that lead up to the sundeck, offering excellent visibility and a comfortable outdoor gathering area. From the sundeck, steps lead to the flybridge, which features an upper helm with a captain’s chair, a port-side bench, and a starboard L-shaped settee with a table—ideal for cruising with guests. Above the hardtop, a folding radar arch provides a mounting point for electronics while allowing clearance for lower bridges.

Waterline Boats / Boatshed does not independently verify capacities and measures, which are reported from seller-provided information and/or literature.

Commentaires du Broker

This Nova Marine 36 Sundeck stands out as a fine example of the model— well cared for, showing less wear than most boats her age, and clearly loved by past owners. The covered moorage, said to be transferable, has kept her gelcoat bright and her brightwork protected. She’s clean, dry, and ready for her next owners to step aboard and start cruising immediately.

From a handling standpoint, the 36 Sundeck is a confident performer. Her full-bodied hull delivers a stable, comfortable ride, while her twin diesel engines respond reliably and economically. She tracks straight, handles predictably at slow speeds, and is easy to maneuver in tight quarters—qualities that take the stress out of docking or operating in busy marinas. Covered side decks and secure handholds throughout add to the sense of safety, allowing crew to move about with confidence even when underway.

On deck, the sundeck with hardtop and clear enclosures provides a versatile, all-weather entertaining space. The covered side decks lead to a generous foredeck for line handling or relaxing at anchor. A wide swim platform with dinghy davits makes water access simple, whether for swimming, diving, or launching the tender.

Below, the warm teak interior feels both inviting and functional. Large, well-sealed windows flood the cabin with natural light while maintaining a dry bilge. The layout offers excellent separation between the spacious aft cabin—with its own head and shower—and the forward guest stateroom, also with private head access. The fully equipped galley down is designed for extended cruising, with abundant storage for provisions.

With her combination of comfort, seaworthiness, and above-average condition, this Nova Marine 36 Sundeck represents an ideal opportunity for buyers seeking a proven cruising yacht that inspires confidence on the water and pride at the dock.
