Whether you’re buying or selling a boat in Essex you’ll know there are all sorts of extras you can buy to make boating more enjoyable or comfortable. Here are some ideas for Christmas gifts for the boater in your life.

Make sure your loved ones are well dressed on board. You could buy a personalised fleece displaying the name of the boat, or something more practical like a life jacket. Add to this some decent trainers – good shoes that grip the deck and a cool pair of sunglasses, and you have an entire boating outfit.

If the boater in your life likes gadgets there are plenty of choices to take on the boat. He or she may already have an iPad, iPod and iPhone so get them waterproof cases for all of their i-stuff! Combine this with a battery charger that you can plug into 12volt and all the gadgets will be full of juice. Try to find out if your boating friend needs a better camera, or perhaps a waterproof one to keep on the boat.

While it may look like the fisherman in your life has plenty of equipment a new net or reel could add to and improve his collection. Bigger and fancier gadgets could include a weather receiver or electronic chart plotter. For the gadget-lover with a noisy engine look into getting a pair of water-resistant, noise-cancelling headsets with mikes for clear communication when you’re on board.

Old fashioned favourites that always come in handy are binoculars and a powerful hand held spotlight torch. Thinking ahead to summer you could treat your loved one to a propane gas grill for barbeques on deck. Or how about a tiny light-duty dinghy?

Consider what creature comforts could make cruising more cosy. A 12volt microwave is a nice little luxury for when the engine is running; enjoy hot food on the move. If you buy a cool box for food and drink it can also serve as an extra dry locker for your camera and phone.

And finally, how about a Jolly Roger flag? – but only if he fancies himself as a bit of a Captain Jack Sparrow.
