Length overall for moorage purposes is 18' 3".
Hull and deck constructed with hand layup of Soric and foam sandwich with glass fibers reinforced with polyester and vinyl ester resin.
Hull reinforced with a stringer and bulkheads of the two insubmersibility chambers. Deck with moulded high traction non-skid.
Two transom hung rudders built of GRP foam sandwich mounted in custom aluminium cassettes. Bolts, screws and fittings made of marine-grade stainless steel.
Unsinkable chambers make her insubmersible, a swinging keel prevents structural damage in case of grounding, and twin rudders give complete control for safe downwind planing.

The First 18's interior accommodations are basic, but functional for sleeping aboard. The cuddy cabin has an upholstered V-berth for sleeping two and an overhead hatch for ventilation. In addition to the sleeping area there is room aft of the berth to store personal items, equipment, and extra sails. For extra living area a tent could be set up over the cockpit. There is a popular account of a young couple that cruised extensively throughout southeast Europe aboard a Fast 18.
